"War and paint!! The Diary of the modern World"

In 1998/2009 the artist Xavier Pick spent 6 weeks in Basra with the British, American and Iraq troops.
He was given 24hour access to the army in which during the trip he produced thousands of sketches and paintings of things he witnessed and documented his experience on canvas and audio.

In his paintings he captures the life in Iraq at a cross road for both the British army and iraqs people. Giving an insight into the deception of modern military conflict

"People refer to me as a war artist," said Pick, who spent six weeks with military forces in Basra. "I prefer to think of myself as an artist who just happens to work in conflict zones."
